July certainly has had its share of hot weather and storms. The beauty, lazy days by the lake and hiking in our woods offers such a nice respite from the day to day. Still, plenty of summer days ahead to get out and enjoy our beautiful Ranch.
I want to start this message with a sad announcement. As many of you already know, longtime CCR member Barb Steele recently passed away. She was a wealth of knowledge and one of the driving forces toward creating our History Museum. Her collection will be preserved by the Historical Committee and the legacy of her kindness and inclusive nature will live on through these memories. Her memorial will be held on August 10 th at 2 p. m. at the Ranch House. More information will be posted on Facebook as it becomes available.
Our recent Board meeting notes:
The Board voted to support the proxy that, if passed, will replace our dwindling oil and gas revenues with a dues increase dedicated to the Natural Resource Fund of approximately $ 205 per member annually. The proxy also caps annual cost of living adjustments at 5 %. I hope that you will consider the many ways that these funds benefit all CCR members and consider a yes vote.
The Board approved many committee reports and minutes and here are a few highlights.
• First, a fun piece of unexpected news. The Historical Committee won a blue ribbon at the fair for the best decorated booth.
• The museum project is coming along nicely. With the dry wall completed, it is really taking shape. If you have memorabilia you wish to share with the museum, the Historical Committee hopes you will submit it soon.
• To help them with the bottle fundraising, please do not put glass bottles or trash in the trailer. As you might imagine that makes for a tough, dirty job when Earl takes them in.
• Elk Dinner raffle tickets are now on sale. Please consider buying a ticket to support this wonderful event. I have mine.
• On August 13, Paula Rivard will be hosting a trip out to the CCR beehives. And on August 19, the Ladies Auxiliary has another wine tasting scheduled.
President’ s Message
1
• The Campground Committee will be hosting a Trailer Trick or Treat on August 30 th between 7-8 p. m. There will be some special treats including a place to make your own caramel apples and a costume contest with cash prizes. REMINDER: please clean up after your pets!
The Board discussed several safety issues. We approved a first reading of a safety recommendation to restrict paddle boards and boats from the swimming area. New signage will reflect this rule change. Brian and his operations team will be investigating additional ways to provide safe walking / driving in critical CCR areas and intersections. We also continue to encourage members to prominently display their address on their homes / cabins to help first responders identify your location in an emergency.
Finally, after the recent ice storm, the need for debris clean-up is very important. Currently, the potential for a devastating fire at Canada Creek is high. All it takes is a bolt of lightning, as we’ re seeing with the destructive Canadian wildfires going on now. We highly encourage members with lots to please make every effort to remove debris. The clearing of ranch-owned lots is also on the Board’ s agenda and needs to be addressed.
The next Board meeting will take place on August 21 via Zoom.
