New Members August CCR Shooters Corner Here we are in August already, the sunset of summer vacation and changing season into Fall. Pretty soon everyone will be dusting off bows and arrows and hunting rifles & shotguns to take afield for the real targets instead of paper bullseye and clay pigeons. Please note that all the target backstops have been repaired by the Ranch maintenance department for your usage on the rifle range. Be sure to thank the crew if you see them around. Time is running short to get your practice in before the weather turns cooler. Be sure to maximize it while you are out there and pay heed to the safety rules for your protection. If you have any suggestions for improvements or other upgrades you would like to see on any of the ranges, please contact us thru the CCR office ATTN: Shooting Sports Committee. Skornia Family New Members - The Skornia Family Hello Canada Creek Ranch! Our family includes Adam, Emma, Lilian (3) and Owen (1.5). Adam was raised in Freeland, MI and moved to the metro Detroit area to complete schooling at Wayne State University for Mechanical engineering. Emma was raised in Birmingham, MI and attended Madonna University for Bachelors of Science in Nursing. Emma was previously a RN with Beaumont Hospital and is currently is a stay at home mom raising Lilian and Owen. Adam is an engineer with FCA. We currently reside in Oxford, MI. Together we enjoy archery and hunting, however Adam also enjoys long range shooting and taking Lilian fishing at a lake near our home. We met up north in Lupton, MI on Henderson Lake. Both of our families have cottages that have gone back generations on this lake. Adam was raised with hunting and fishing on his families hunting land and introduced Emma into these sports while dating. It was such a staple in our relationship that we chose to marry on the property! Growing up Adam has previously been involved with Ducks Unlimited, Whitetails unlimited and National Wild Turkey Federation. Adam stumbled upon Canada Creek Ranch while searching for our own property throughout northern Michigan and found “for sale” listing mentioning CCR and began to research more regarding this outdoor club. After learning more and visiting CCR, this is a place that has the best of many worlds: a sense of tight community, fishing, hunting, various ranges and activities for our little’s to be apart of. We are excited to be able to raise our children within a safe place that allows so many opportunities of activities all in one place. Thank you for reading about our little family, we look forward to meeting our new neighbors and creating memories! 11 Library Corner August is here and it’s going to be a hot one. We have lots of books this month, mostly donated. Thank you, members, for your generosity. First is a book called A Sow’s Ear donated by the author, one of our members, John Lengemann. It’s his first novel. A Sow’s Ear is set in the thumb of Michigan. You will find it a compelling drama and a trip down memory lane if you have ever traveled through thumb. The Boy From the Woods by Harlan Coben will keep you guessing. Rising Thunder by Wayne Stinnett will take you south of the border in the newest Jesse McDermitt novel. Long Range is the newest Joe Pickett novel by C.J. Box. You will learn about grizzly attacks and long-range rifle shots. Lastly, we have Masked Prey by John Sandford. High political people kids are being targeted by a sinister group. The law can’t help them, so they call in Lucus Davenport to save their children. Thanks again for all the donations. We just received a bunch of kid’s DVDs. Please don’t forget to use hand sanitizer before and after touching the books and wear your mask for others. REMINDER! You can purchase your Michigan Hunting and Fishing Licenses at the Ranch House!
