July CCR Shooters Corner New Members By the time you read this kid will have finished school and most of the open houses for graduates are memories. Time to start our summer fun. The shotgun trap and skeet ranges are up running on weekends from 10am to 2pm both Saturday and Sunday. Please welcome Burt Barker as the newest Shotgun Rangemaster. Please help him out when circumstances call for it. If you need to borrow a shotgun for the youngsters just inquire at the Ranch House to use a CCR owned firearm. Summertime shooting is the most enjoyable with family members. If you’ve never done it before someone at the range will help out with guidance and suggestions for improving the skills needed to break clay birds on a regular basis. Its real inexpensive fun for young and old. Trap/skeet range shooting fees: 1 adult round = $5.00 1 youth round = $2.50 1 CCR Range shooting punch card $40.00 (10 rounds + 1 extra round when its full) Available at the range or the Ranch House (Avg. = $3.67/ round) New members, the Conrad family. L-R: Evan, Charles, Wendy and Drew Hello Canada Creek Ranch, We are the Conrad family, including Charles, Wendy, Evan and Drew. We are longtime residents of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Charles is the owner of Conrad Consulting, a technical consulting firm. Wendy, Evan and Drew all work at Hooper Hathaway, a law firm located in downtown Ann Arbor. The short pistol range has new target hanging netting mesh and 6 new challenging 2" orange pass thru pistol targets. Plans are under way to rebuild the majority of the backstop. Materials are ordered and will be replaced as soon as a volunteer work crew can be assembled, and a date picked for this range closure. Hopefully just a few days out of operation to finish the job. If you would like to help us out on these repairs and continue to keep the range a first-class facility, please feel free to contact Shooting Sports Committee through the CCR office. This range appears to get the most usage of any of the ranges. Please report any attention it may need going forward We have made Canada Creek Ranch our summer vacation destination for many years as guests of Charles’s parents, Ken and Dorothy Conrad. We always stay at the Ranch House. We enjoy a variety of activities, including archery, shooting, fishing, boating and kayaking, hiking and nature spotting. Some of us have also been to the Ranch in the winter and have enjoyed cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. Charles’s grandfather (Charles L. Conrad) was any early member of CCR and our connection to the Ranch goes back about 80 years. Charles remembers staying many times at the old ranch house while growing up. Membership was passed to Charles’s parents, who have been members since the 1960’s. With the recent death of Ken, one of their memberships will be passed on to Charles and Wendy. We have made so many wonderful memories and have grown to love Canada Creek Ranch. We are very excited about becoming members! The rifle/pistol range has a repaired 6 falling plate steel target that was so popular last year. REMINDER: Steel plate targets at the 25-yard line are Pistol and Rimfire usage only. They are not designed for Centerfire Rifle, SBR centerfire pistol, or Shotgun. Please respect and observe these simple rules for the preservation of the target. We are planning new steel plate targets at other distances on the range specifically designed for centerfire rifle cartridges. Maybe if we receive them in time, they’ll be up and running by the time you read this. Keep your fingers crossed and let us know how you like them by sending a note to the Shooting Sports Committee care of the CCR office. We look forward to your comments and suggestions going forward. Please remember to sign in/out while you’re at the range so we know where to invest in improvements for your shooting pleasure. This is more important than you know. REMEMBER - SAFETY FIRST ALWAYS The Shooting Sports Committee FUN FACT: A 16" Navy battleship gun has approximately the same muzzle velocity as a .308 Winchester bullet. Instead of shooting a 150gr bullet up to 2.4 miles, the 1900# to 2700# projectile will travel up to 24 miles with accuracy. 7
