President ’ s Message
By Vicki Rakowski , CCR Board President
Last year , I began my first President ’ s Message with a single word : connection . I hoped that all of us at Canada Creek Ranch would try to connect with one another better in 2024 .
This year , the word I ’ m picking is
“ happiness ” for two very personal reasons . First , I am so happy to have shared our great Winter Jamboree with both our own family and our CCR family .
Secondly , I am so happy that our daughter and family are all alive with minimal injuries after being in a serious car accident . It occurred in white-out conditions on their way home from CCR . I think it can serve as a reminder to all of us to be grateful and happy for the beautiful lives we have and the lasting friendships we share .
So , yes , happiness is my word for today .
The February Board meeting was short and uneventful . We reviewed financials , approved a lot sale , had first and second readings of new member applications , had a first reading of some proposed building code recommendations and , finally , the second reading on a rule that would require all member snowmobiles at CCR to possess an annual CCR sticker .
Finally , we approved a list of CCR Committee Chairs and discussed how the charters for committees needed updating to line up with our new policies and procedures . Sunday morning , Dan Blanton and I hosted the first of several town hall meetings that will address our current income and budgetary issues . Due to a dramatic loss of gas revenues ( from $ 410,000 per year in 2008 down to $ 2,900 in 2024 ), we need to correct a significant revenue shortfall .
I am happy to say we had a nice turnout and a lively discussion . This member input will help the Board gain a deeper understanding of member priorities as we prepare for a final proxy vote in the Fall .
As many of you know , we asked our Long-Term Financial Planning Committee to take a deep-dive into CCR financials . This group , chaired by our Treasurer , Dan Blanton , is made up of members who have both expertise in financial planning and represent a wide range of interests and priorities at CCR .
The committee has looked at many different options and has put forth a recommendation that will be discussed and refined as we move forward . Keep an eye out for more information from this committee and your Board . We will do our best to correct the misinformation that we ’ ve discovered circulating around the Ranch .
The next town hall will be on March 22 at 2 p . m ., following the regularly scheduled Board meeting . I highly encourage as many members as possible to attend .
