Historical Corner
Our beautiful wintry snow has interrupted construction on the outer shell of the museum . Therefore , a lot of interior discussions were exchanged at our February 12 th meeting . Earl read a report from Brian Rogers of action by the builder for heating / cooling , electrical and drywall using some member sub-contractors . The question was raised if the builder will be using the fire suppression system offered by a member .
Perry Cooper had sent the Committee pdfs for the 3 stained glass windows for the west wall – the Committee reviewed , discussed the designs and made some suggestions ; the oak entry door designs are being prepared by Perry . Ray Peltier will burn the door designs into the Oak doors , once they are approved . Ross Trim has the elk antlers donated by Brian VanTiem that will be used for the door handles .
Perry intends to have the early history / timeline ready upon his return to CCR in May . Rhonda Weatherington has been in touch with Perry relative to the storylines as is Linda Cook with the Glacial Age and Original People information . More historical information is being prepared for the forestry & wildlife , archery and shooting sports . It was agreed that all decisions relative to décor and / or printed material will be reviewed and approved by the Historical Committee members .
Artifacts , films and personal stories that members would be willing to donate and / or share are still being sought . Please contact any Committee Member if you have anything we might be able to use .
Thank You members for dropping off cans and plastic returnables to the trailer at Earl ’ s home . This coming Spring , we will only have one trailer and it will be located across from the Ranch House for collections .
Save the Date : Father ’ s Day , June 15 , 2025 – Baggy Pants V Golf Outing at Thunder Bay Golf Course – Flyers should be available by Mid-March .
Enjoy the rest of your winter – couldn ’ t be more beautiful !
Book Nook & News
By Rhonda Wetherington
The CCR book club met on February 12 with a total of nine attendees ( two on zoom ) to discuss Eruption by Michael Crichton and James Patterson . This was an interesting and suspenseful read geographically , as it was in Hawai ’ i , and there was an urgent mission to keep the world from its end . However , most readers felt it didn ’ t live up to Crichton ( now deceased ) and his previous writings . James Patterson helped develop the final edition . There were some stereotypes , chapters were short and disjointedly separated , and people die as expected . Topics related were the use of Agent Orange , volcanic eruptions elsewhere , and current billionaire power . Overall the group gave the novel a 2.75 out of 5 stars .
Our next novel is All the Colors of the Dark by Chris Whitaker . Our CCR library has a copy . Set in the 70 ’ s , this is a thriller serial murder mystery about missing people and a hero who prevails . Rated as a favorite mystery on Goodreads , it also is a NYT bestseller . Our next meeting is March 11 at 7 p . m . in the boardroom with zoom available for those who cannot attend .
New purchases this month in the library include The Great Divide by Cristina Henriquez which is a historical novel about the construction of the Panama Canal and the people who labored on it . A captivating and epic book , it offers informative background and stories about building the canal from multiple viewpoints .
Also this month , the library acquired Nora Roberts ’ s first release in the Lost Bride Trilogy , Inheritance , a tale of a mansion haunted by a centuries ’ old curse , romance , and tragedy .
Happy reading !
