Forest Tour A tour of the proposed 2021/22 forest treatment areas will be held Saturday, October 3. All interested members should meet at the ranch house at 1:00 pm. Referred to map for location of proposed stands: Stands 6-21 & 49 are mature Northern Hardwood sands with pockets of aspen and red oak. Origin of these stands were 1926 and 1924 respectively. Harvest objective is to thin out poor quality and high risk stems to concentrate growth on residual high quality stems. Small pockets of aspen may be extended to increase aspen component in the stand. Stands 5-72 & 90 are mature aspen stands previously cut in 1968. Harvest objectives are to regenerate aspen and promote oak regeneration where appropriate. Stand 6-122 is a mature stand of jack pine poles proposed for harvest, located east side of Canada Creek. Harvest objective for this stand is to regenerate jack pine (which will probably need planting) as well as aspen and red oak where appropriate. Jack pine is maintained on CCR for wildlife cover and winter thermal protection. Stand 6-103 is well-stocked red oak saw-log and pole timber with maple poles and pockets of aspen Stand was previously thinned in 2002. Portions of this stand, defined as “Hilly Red Oak” have extreme terrain issues and may by inoperable for forestry equipment. Discussion of specific treatment will be discussed during tour. 20 16
