Continued from page 20 though he also enjoys wildlife viewing, fishing, snowmobiling, shooting, playing pickleball, shed hunting, visiting the beach, playing cornhole and euchre, and occasionally dining at the Ranch House. Recently, three separate members of the Nominating Committee have asked him to consider running for the Board.
Gary Whitmire is a third-generation member, with both his parents and his dad’ s brother being members. Gary has been a member for nearly 47 years, joining in 1978. Over the years, he has served on three different CCR Boards of Directors, including as President. Gary retired after a 40-year career in education, with 30 of those years as a school administrator, including roles as a high school vice principal, head principal, and superintendent. He managed an annual budget of $ 31.5 million for many years.
Gary holds a Bachelor of Science degree in economics, business, and biological science from Hillsdale College. He also holds a master’ s degree and a specialist degree in school business and administration from Central Michigan University. Gary is a cabin owner, hunter, fisherman, and environmental enthusiast at CCR. Currently, he serves as president of the Flushing United Methodist Administrative Council. He is also the past president of the Flushing Rotary Club.
Why is it necessary to make these decisions now? As the graph below indicates, our natural gas revenues have decreased dramatically over the past twenty years. In 2008, they peaked at over $ 408,000; in 2024, our income was less than $ 3,000. As a result, the valuable CCR Resource Fund is dwindling rapidly. We need to act to protect the long-term health of Canada Creek Ranch as investors in this great place.
