We Get Letters...
Joy Barber

St. Clair Shore, MI 48080
Interviewer: Robert Clark
Letters should be addressed to: We Get Letters, C/O CCR Office, 23500 Ranch
House Trail, Atlanta, MI 49709 or E-mailed to mjwood@src-milp.com. Letters should
be typed, if possible. Letter limit 500 words Must be signed and include the name
and address of the writer Anonymous letters will not be published. No letter will
be rejected because it contains a viewpoint in opposition to the Board of Directors
or its committees, or because it contains statements that are critical of a current
policy. All letters will be published exactly as they were written (no editing). The
committee reserves the right to reject and/or refuse to publish a letter considered
to be in bad taste. Letters should not make negative comments about named
members.
It seems incomplete to engage an ad-hoc Side-bySide
Committee to investigate the use of recreational vehicles by
expanding their charge to include ATV’s and ORV’s over a
years time and ignore motorcycles which are also off highway
recreational vehicles.
In addition to these, on highway motorcycles that have both
been subject to the same noise standards and spark arrest
requirements
As the other afore mentioned recreational vehicles discussed
above.
If the objective is to make the Ranch more appealing to
additional new members it seems that we want to encourage
the participation of all types of recreational vehicles in today’s
changing atmosphere instead of ostracizing a specific group
based on age old perceptions and attitudes from the 50’s and
60’s. This seems like a question of courage on the part of the
BOD to get put every aspect of the rule change to
accommodate inclusively all recreational vehicles to make
the Ranch more appealing to all prospective members. You’ve
already built in a “poison pill” by reserving the right to make
changes with your 1 year trial basis.
You can easily change the language to read “to and from a
residence or camp sight to any state or county maintained
roadway or trail system” in order to accommodate the existing
on Ranch roadway operating rules. Why not address the
entire issue instead of trying to solve the current trend in
recreational usage and leaving it piece meal for a future BOD
to grapple with. The trial usage allows its modification to
“get out of jail free” after 1 year anyway you work it.
Sincerely, Ron Flore
Note: There hasn’t been a new 3 wheeled Off Highway Vehicle
produced by any off the recreational vehicle manufacturers
since the mid 80’s. On highway open air 3 wheelers are all
titled as motorcycles currently. Enclosed 3 wheeler
commuting vehicles in the State of Michigan will be titled
as “auto cycles” when they become more popular vehicles.

CCR Historial Ad Hoc Committee
The CCR HISTORICAL AD HOC COMMITTEE has
been established with Earl Sowers and Barbara
Steele as Co-Chairs. The goals/objectives are to
establish a museum filled with CCR history, such as
memorabilia, photos, artifacts and special personal
stories from current and former members. This is a
vast undertaking with overwhelming thoughts of
“where do we begin”!
Barbara Steele has much documentation from past
CCR News, many old photos and artifacts in her
possession. And, as we hear from the membership of
what they may be willing to share for a museum, that
will help us determine the space that will be needed
to safely house CCR precious history.
We are asking if current and former members would
search those stored boxes for any memorabilia,
artifacts, etc. they’d be willing to donate or loan to a
CCR Museum. However, at this time, we have no
storage space available. We would note for our records
what might be offered from a member, but the item
would remain with the member until we have a safe
storage area.
The Committee is anxious to get CCR history
chronicled with photos, artifacts and personal stories
for all to enjoy. We do have some displays available
and will periodically share them at special events.
As with many projects, finances become a large factor
– we will need somewhere to safely place these
precious memories on display. Much discussion has
been exchanged about where – build a room, buy a
cabin, build a separate building. We will plan
fundraisers to earn monies, but will mostly depend
upon generous donations and “donation jars” (no
amount is too small).
Any suggestions, comments, memorabilia and/or
donations may be given to any Committee Member
(Earl Sowers, Barbara Steele, Carol Drouin, Trish
Gilbert, Viki Kaszonyi, Roger Ray, Bill Shinn, Webb
Wood, Gary Zechel or Jo-Carole Zechel)
The Committee is having a can/bottle drive to raise
funds. Please drop off any donations to Earl Sowers
– 22497 Shelton Trail east of Storm Lake Trail.
