Youth Shooting The youth shooting event was cancelled this year due to covid concerns . Rifle Subcommittee Cameron Geralds , Subcommittee Chair
Members have been very pleased with the continued availability of shooting safety accessories . These items make it much easier to safely bring family members and guests to the range . It is a credit to the trustworthiness of the membership that we can leave these items out with a minimum of losses .
The Rifle subcommittee completed many enhancements to the rifle range this year . Improvements Using Committee Custodial Funds and Committee Labor
• Repair work by Ron Flore : o Replaced parts and repaired the “ falling plates ” pistol target rack . o Repaired the steel duck rotating target system popular with youth shooters for . 22lr plinking . o Repaired the spinning steel target by welding on a new rotation pin .
• Range planning work
o Cameron Geralds documented the current builds at all rifle range stations and designed maintenance and upgrade plans .
o Cameron geralds and Chuck Thurston collaborated on design of a sun shade shooting station for the rifle range . Committee funds are approved for the construction .
• Range Improvements using custodial funds
o Bill Hankes designed and installed a drop-tube system for disposing of misfired cartridges . It is installed at the 25-yard range .
o The sun shade designed by Chuck Thurston will be installed on Sept . 26 , 2020 . Rifle Range Improvements Using Ranch Funds and labor
• Safety signs regarding badges were replaced to align with current rules wording .
• Repairs were made the wood backstops at the 100 and 50-yard ranges .
• Improved wood backstops were installed at the 300 , 200 and 25-yard stations .
• The 200-yard gong stand was repair welded . Planned Rifle Range Improvements for 2021
• Install a new shooting platform to allow members to shoot prone , kneeling and standing positions as in High Power Rifle shooting competitions . Committee funds approved .
• Host a Work Bee for range maintenance and improvements . Misc . supplies TBD . Pistol Subcommittee Ron Flore , Subcommittee Chairman Improvements Using Committee Custodial Funds and Committee Labor
• Repair work by Ron Flore : o Repaired chicken wire target hangers , with the assistance of Gary Zechel
• Range planning work
o Ron Flore designed a new target hanging system for the pistol range . This design is easier to maintain . This target system was installed by the maintenance crew and has been received many positive responses from pistol shooters . Pistol Range Improvements Using Ranch Funds and Labor
• Safety signs regarding badges were replaced to align with current rules wording .
• The new target hanging system designed by Ron Flore was built by the maintenance crew .
The Pistol Subcommittee is looking for additional members with a high interest in pistol shooting sports . Continued on page 31
