August CCR Shooters Corner Its finally here! The sun and warm weather. Time to get the 22 rimfires and center fire pistols and rifles out for some serious shooting practice. We’ve noticed that the falling plate target is as popular as ever, so we’ve put up some more steel targets for you to plink at. Hopefully by the time you read this there will be another spinning plate target next to the falling plates target to hone your skills with. Did you notice the new gong targets just beyond the 100- yard mark and another set out at the 200-yard distance? These were designed for heavier hitting centerfire rifles and long-range rifle caliber pistols. If the big ones are too easy for you try to bang the smaller ones hanging together with them. Get your rifle sighted in at 100 yards then try your hand at 200 and tell us what you think of them. Just another reminder, you must have a range badge to utilize all the range facilities and it must always be visible on your person when shooting. One of the things we observe when shooting at all the ranges including the shotgun fields is individuals not wearing eye and ear protection. Those items are always required on the range for both shooters and observers. Please throw all your empty brass including 22 calibers into the empty brass boxes provided in the shooting houses. This recyclable material helps to pay for all range improvements. Don’t forget the shotgun ranges are open both Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 2pm with skeet and trap. If you are looking for a shotgun shooting opportunity on another day of the week check out the Black Lake Sportsmans Club in Onaway. They have a 5-stand shooting course on Thursday nights starting at 5pm. It’s a real challenge and a blast to shoot that won’t break the bank. I’ll bet you’ll shoot it several times once you try it!! **SPECIAL THANKS TO BOB NORTON AND GARY ZECHEL FOR HELPING TO REPAIR AND REPLACE THE SHORT PISTOL RANGE BACKSTOP. WE REALLY APPRECIATED YOUR HELP** REMEMBER-SAFETY FIRST ALWAYS The Shooting Sports Committee FUN FACTS • A 308 bullet with a muzzle velocity of 2,600 feet per second with a 1 in 10 twist barrel spins at 187,200 revolutions per minute. • A 22LR bullet with a muzzle velocity of 1,100 feet per second with a 1 in 16 twist barrel spins at 49,500 revolutions per minute.
