Manager s Report 1 . Barger Creek Wireless Update
• B . Rogers reported Barger Creek has stated that they may have the campground internet active by the end of September , barring any unforeseen issues . This will be available to those in the tower ’ s area for daily , weekly , or monthly rates without the need for additional equipment .
2 . Conifer Tree Trenching Update
• B . Rogers gave an update on the tree trenching . Some great regeneration of oak has been discovered . B . Rogers reached out to Terry Manty and asked questions regarding the regeneration . T . Manty suggested that we review it after two or three years because waiting longer would make it near impossible to trench if other non-desirable trees / shrubs immerged . T . Manty also said holding off on the trenching would not hurt any of CCR ’ s current contracts or certifications currently in place .
B . Rogers asked if we could go ahead and plant the jack pine in this area , just without trenching knowing that the success rate was less , but we are leaving the oaks alone . T . Manty stated that we should attempt to plant in the equipment tracks from when the harvest was done because it will have limited grass competition . This appears to be the best option moving forward to keep the stand a mix of species as it has been . This also follows the recommendation from the Alpena-Montmorency County Conservation District in regard to having multiple species in a stand just in case a disease or bug infestation happens for one species or another . B . Rogers asked for support / approval to move forward with this plan .
After the discussion , the Board supported the process that Management and the CCR Maintenance Team are recommending for trenching and planting of Jack Pine .
